bauma 2025: “A good plan is crucial to getting the most out of the event.”
This year, we’re happy to be exhibiting at bauma – the world's largest trade fair! From 7th to 13th April 2025, the trade fair centre in Munich, Germany, will once again be the meeting place for the construction, building materials and mining machinery industries.
With bauma just around the corner, Volker Rux, Managing Director of Scafom-rux Germany, spoke with the trade magazine Allgemeine Bauzeitung (ABZ) about our presence at Bauma, the current challenges in the construction industry, and forecasts for the future.
ABZ: What expectations does your company have for this year’s bauma?
Volker Rux: Our expectations are no different from those of previous events: strengthening existing customer relationships and developing new contacts on a national and international level. As a strong corporate group, we are happy to use this opportunity to present our products and our team spirit at this flagship event.
ABZ: With which products, offerings, or services will your company be presenting itself there?
Volker Rux: A major focus will of course be on our successful modular façade scaffolding system SUPER-RS. Numerous user meetings with extremely positive feedback, as well as recent team challenges—timed assembly competitions with participation from many customer teams—have confirmed that we have struck a chord with this product. The sales and rental figures confirm this. bauma gives us the opportunity to introduce SUPER-RS to an even broader audience.
ABZ: What else is of interest?
Volker Rux: Staying in the area of modular façade scaffolding, we will present another system solution that many users have been waiting for.
ABZ: Would you like to elaborate on that already, or will it only be revealed at bauma?
Volker Rux: We want to keep some excitement, so we won’t reveal more just yet—except that a visit will definitely be worthwhile. But beyond that, we have several clever new and further developments in store, such as decking elements or the RINGSCAFF-Sky suspended scaffolding system, to name just two examples. In our hands-on area at the booth, visitors will of course have the opportunity to test the new components.
ABZ: Has your company’s presence at bauma changed this year compared to 2022? If so, in what way?
Volker Rux: First of all, we have a larger booth at this bauma than ever before. However, we won’t just mindlessly fill it with even more scaffolding material. The booth will be a well-rounded concept—in the truest sense of the word!—and we are eager to see how visitors will react. Our colleagues from the globally active Scafom-rux Group will be on-site with us, allowing us to focus more on international customers.
ABZ: Climate neutrality, alternative drive concepts, connected construction, sustainable construction, and the mining challenge (future raw material supply) are the key themes of the trade fair. How is your company positioned in this regard in relation to your product portfolio and new developments?
Volker Rux: In addition to the now almost standard use of renewable energy in production, administration and distribution, we focus on efficiency in product development. Many components have become lighter thanks to intelligent material and manufacturing optimisation, which in turn saves energy during transport.
Moreover, we have long been committed to the MULTI-USE concept, which allows certain components to be used for multiple purposes. Roof elements can be used as support elements, as seen in our MULTI-ROOF. Standard RINGSCAFF ledgers can be turned into intermediate ledgers using compact adapter pieces. SUPER-RS enables the continued use of countless frame scaffolding parts from existing inventories. Additionally, modular façade scaffolding like SUPER-RS is extremely space-saving, offering further transport and logistics advantages.
Another increasingly important resource for our scaffolding customers is our scaffold rental service. This ensures that once-produced material remains in frequent use for as long as possible. And of course, scaffolding as a whole has always been a sustainable industry, as many components are extremely durable, remaining in circulation for decades before eventually being recycled.
ABZ: Which topics do you believe are underrepresented at bauma?
Volker Rux: I actually think the opposite is true—bauma now covers so many areas, both in terms of the huge number of exhibitors and in the variety of supporting programs, information, and networking opportunities, that visitors often feel overwhelmed. A good plan is crucial to getting the most out of the event.
ABZ: How do you assess the current economic situation and market development in the construction industry in Germany, the EU, and internationally?
Volker Rux: We have seen some surprising developments in recent years, which has made us more cautious with forecasts. However, I think a cautious optimism about the construction industry is definitely justified in Germany and beyond. Our conversations confirm time and again that people are motivated, want to get things done, and want to achieve something—especially in the skilled trades.
On the international political level, we hope that many players will come together again and remember that more can be achieved through collaboration. "STRONGER. TOGETHER." is a motto that fits well here.
For the Scafom-rux Group, our global presence offers a significant advantage, allowing us to balance strengths and weaknesses across different regions, making us more adaptable for the future.
ABZ: What medium- and long-term strategies is your company pursuing in Germany, the EU, and internationally?
Volker Rux: In short: expansion and market development.
We see huge potential, not only in the inevitable shift towards scaffolding systems that meet stricter safety regulations—where SUPER-RS is at the forefront—but also in customer services and training.
Important questions for scaffolding professionals include: How do I confidently manage pricing and proposals? What value arguments do I have against price dumping? How can I optimize my logistics? When should I buy, finance, or rent scaffolding? These are not new questions, but in economically challenging times, they become even more urgent.
We recently saw in Berlin that even a major scaffolding company is not immune to bankruptcy. Fortunately, we were able to acquire their material before it flooded the market, allowing us to offer our customers fair deals on used materials.
This shows that even with careful planning and strategy, it is essential to stay flexible and react to market developments.
For scaffolding professionals, knowing that Scafom-rux offers comprehensive rental solutions—including all scaffolding systems and a wide range of accessories—provides security and reliability.
That is a key message we will continue to promote—in Germany and internationally.
